Nice Weekend for Women’s Hockey/Union in Polls
After a number of agonizing ties and overtime losses, the women’s ice hockey team recorded its second ECAC Hockey win of the season by earning a 2-0 win over Yale on Pink at the Rink day at Messa Rink. Senior goaltender Kate Gallagher was outstanding, stopping all 34 shots, and Stefanie Thomson and Lauren Hoffman each scored to help the Dutchwomen earn the victory. (click here) In addition, fans that attended the game helped raise over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The women’s team nearly had the program’s first two-win weekend in league play, but on Friday night, Brown scored at 18:03 with an extra attacker on the ice to earn a 2-2 tie. (click here) Still, for the Dutchwomen, it was their second unbeaten ECAC Hockey weekend of the season, and second in program history. Union is now in shouting distance of a playoff berth in ECAC Hockey, with two games against rival RPI this weekend.
The men’s team slid a couple spots down in the latest USCHO.com poll (click here), and fell one spot in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll (click here) and INCH Power Rankings (click here) Union is tied for 20th in the Pairwise Rankings (click here).
