A special weekend…

What a weekend it was! While officially, Union wins against Harvard and Rensselaer will only count as four points in the league standings, fans of the program will remember this past weekend for years to come.

First, the Dutchmen beat Harvard 2-0 on Friday night in front of 8,891 (mostly Union) fans at Fenway Park in what is believed to be the largest crowd ever to see an ECAC Hockey regular season game.

Lots of great images from the game, from backup goaltender Dillon Pieri wearing a ski cap over his goalie helmet, to freshman defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere tackling Mat Bodie after he scored with 3.6 seconds left in the second period, to the wind creating a snow globe effect on the ice. Oh, and Union won the game.

On Saturday night, you figured RPI might have a jump on Union, given the quick turnaround for the Dutchmen, and no Friday night game for the Engineers. Not the case. Union took a 3-0 lead after one period of play thanks to an early power play goal by (who else) Jeremy Welsh and shorthanded goals by Mat Bodie and Matt Hatch. The rest was history, as Troy Grosenick had another stellar night in net, and Union cruised to a 5-1 win, earning three wins over RPI in a season for just the second time in school history.

Plenty of articles about the weekend from the local beat:
