Union Hockey 2011: A Year to Remember

As the calendar year of 2011 comes to a close, the Official Blog of Union Hockey takes a look back at a landmark year for Union College Hockey. While there were plenty of highlights to choose from, here are the top moments, in pictures, from each of the past 12 months.

NOVEMBER

Nov. 27, 2011, Ann Arbor, MI - A memorable weekend for the team - Union attended a thrilling Michigan-Ohio State football game at the Big House on Satuday - concluded with an impressive performance against the nationally-ranked Michigan hockey team at Yost Arena on Sunday. The Dutchmen earned a 6-3 win, with Jeremy Welsh leading the way (two goals, one assist).

CAPTURING THE MOMENT: “To be honest with you, this team’s been in this environment before. It’s an NCAA team from last year and a lot of these guys grew up a lot last year. And we had a great time at the football game. We had an absolute blast.” - Rick Bennett, on the Michigan road trip.

DECEMBER

Dec. 17, 2011, North Andover, MA - No. 11 Union earns a 3-1 win at No. 5 Merrimack in front a of a standing-room only crowd at Lawler Arena. For the Dutchmen, it is their first win over a top 5 non-conference opponent in program history. With the win, Union improves to 9-3-5 on the season (7-1-3 in road games).
