Union Hockey: A Year to Remember Part III

SUMMER MONTHS

May 24, 2011, Schenectady, NY – Head coach Rick Bennett announces his assistant coaches, Joe Dumais and Jason Tapp. Dumais joins Union after three years on the coaching staff at Connecticut, but is recognizable to some Union fans as a former standout at Quinnipiac. Tapp, who helped mold Keith Kinkaid into a First-Team All-American goaltender in two years as a volunteer assistant, becomes another familiar face on the Union coaching staff. Former Union standout Joel Beal (‘05) will join the staff weeks later as a volunteer assistant coach to round out the staff.

CAPTURING THE MOMENT: “With Joe joining our staff we are very fortunate to have one of the best young recruiters in college hockey. His experience in all areas of the game will be beneficial with our specialty teams. We are also extremely excited to have Jason join our staff. As a former college goalie his knowledge and passion for the position will help tremendously this upcoming season.” – Rick Bennett

June and August, Schenectady, NY - Rick Bennett and Claudia Asano announce the Union Hockey class of 2015. Bennett adds goaltender Colin Stevens to the class late in the summer. Stevens, a Niskayuna native, headlines the largest recruiting class at Union in years.

CAPTURING THE MOMENT: “I knew that was where I wanted to go, so why wait?” I love the school. I grew up watching Union games. It’ a great school, academically, and they have such great fans. The combination of hockey and the school itself was too good to pass up.” - Stevens

“I’m very excited about the six players that we have coming into our program next season. All of them have the potential to be impact players if they continue to develop and work hard.  I can’t wait to get them on the ice with the rest of the team in the fall.” - Asano
