It seems like outdoor games are popping up everywhere and Troy Record’s Ed Weaver asked the question, “Why not Union and RPI outside?” See if he came to a conclusion CLICK HERE
Log Jam
That’s what the top of the ECAC Hockey standings look like. The top four teams are separated by only one point. With 10 games remaining Union is holding onto its first-place spot with 17 points, while Yale, Cornell and St. Lawrence are tied for second with 16 points.
Friday’s night game is a big one — like I had to tell you. Union travels to Yale for a 7 p.m. contests.

Dropping to 18th
The latest USCHO.com poll was released today and Union fell from 13th to 18th — as expected. Being swept at home is never a good thing, but it was unlikely that Union would make its way through ECAC Hockey without a loss.
Here is the complete poll CLICK HERE
Like I said, You can't win them all
Well hot goaltending erected the brick wall that the Dutchmen crashed into this weekend — I think that sums it up. Here are your media clips.

Well you can't win them all
Harvard handed Union its first conference loss last night, 4-1. Don’t let the score fool you, the Dutchmen controlled most of the game, outshooting the Crimson 48-25. Essentially, the score was 2-1 because Harvard potted a pair of empty netters with less than two minutes remaining.
The difference maker was Harvard goaltender Ryan Carroll, who limited one of the top offenses in the country to...

Union's Jersey Best in NHL?
Yahoo Sports had a blog a few months ago rating the top 5 best and worst jerseys of the decade. Well the Minnesota Wild’s third jersey was voted numero uno for the top sweater of the decade. What people may not know is that the Union men’s hockey jersey was inspired by the Wild’s alternate uni. Read the whole article CLICK HERE

It's Finally Here
Capital District hockey fans had to wait an agonizing 38 days since the last Union-RPI contest. Tonight the two teams will do battle for the 75th time, including the fourth this season — but you already knew that.
Here are highlights of the Oct. 30 game (RPI won 4-3 in OT) CLICK HERE

Is it Saturday yet?
When I woke up this morning, I had a voicemail from a gentleman offering $1,000 for my press pass for this Saturday’s game. Okay that is a complete fabrication, but if you are trying to get into the Union-RPI game and you don’t have a ticket yet, GOOD LUCK.
Well there is one final ray of sunlight for you. At 5 p.m. on Saturday 150 standing-room-only tickets will be sold. I’d start camping out...
Close Ones
I was producing the game program for this weekend’s contest against RPI and I stumbled upon a little tidbit — if you want to call it that. All three Union-RPI games have had a game-changing goal take place within the final three minutes of regulation.
On Oct. 30, RPI’s Bryan Brutlag scored with 2:51 remaining to send the game into overtime where Chase Polacek won it for the...

Luke Cain! Luke Cain! Luke Cain!
Okay…Luke Cain’s game-winner at Quinnipiac wasn’t as dramatic as Stephane Matteau’s double OT winner, but still it was a big goal in a big game. Cain’s wrap-around tally lifted Union to a 2-1 and into first place in the ECAC Hockey.
What does it all mean? Well nothing. Union is only nine games into conference play and hasn’t been through the league once....
The Battle for First Place
It’s not everyday that you have the first-place team and the second-place team doing battle, but that is the occasion tonight when #12 Quinnipiac (7-5-0, 14 pts.) welcomes the 17th-ranked Dutchmen (5-0-3, 13 pts.) to the TD Bank Sports Center tonight at 7 p.m.
I’d expect a playoff-like intensity to tonight’s game. Union is coming off that 7-3 victory at Princeton, while Q-Pac...

Normally on a day like today, I’d blog about something and then include the media clips after. Well today I thought I’d post the articles and then provide a little something-something later on. So in case you don’t know what happened last night or just want to read some more about it, here are the media clips from last night’s game.

Live from Hobey Baker Rink
About nine or 10 months ago, the Dutchmen skated into Hobey Baker Rink and nearly left with a pair of wins that would have sent them to the 2008-09 ECAC Hockey Championship weekend. A 3-1, game-three victory by the Tigers halted the Dutchmen’s season. Tonight at 7 p.m., Union returns to Hobey Baker for its first contest against Princeton since that quarterfinal playoff season.

Interesting fact of the day
Union and Bemidji State are the only two teams in the country that remain unbeaten in their respective conferences. At 4-0-3, Union is off to its best conference start and its second-longest ECACH unbeaten streak in program history.
